Cancer Biology and Immunotherapeutics brings together a multi-disciplinary, collaborative group of investigators in cancer research and clinical care that convene on a regular basis and translate research into innovative cancer treatments, which are effective, value-based, and evidence-based. The expertise of individual investigators is diverse and includes:
- Basic cancer biology
- Tumor immunology
- Pathophysiology
- Pre-clinical drug development
- Clinical trials
- Advancing surgical techniques
- Complementary alternative medicine
- Prevention
- Survivorship
- Healthcare disparities
- Diagnostic techniques
- Predictive markers
- Genomics and bioinformatics/modeling
- Genomic editing using CRISPR/Cas9
- High throughput screening
- Protein expression and purification
- Mass spectrometry based proteomics
- Cell based assays
- Enzymatic assays
This breadth of research provides a rich and fertile ground for innovative advances, which are shaped by and adapted to the unique challenges of healthcare disparities in cancer diagnosis and therapeutics. Our mission is to translate our research in the form of quality cancer care to underserved communities. The research infrastructure at LA Biomed seeks to support our mission through the promotion and maintenance of a multi-institutional collaborative environment, and the support of research on causes, diagnosis and cure of cancer. Cancer models studied include: breast cancer, melanoma, lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, thyroid cancer, and brain tumors.
