Donations
All donations to The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, are considered voluntary and unconditional gifts. Upon completing an online donation, donors will automatically receive a confirmation email from the Institute’s secure payment processor.
A formal tax receipt will be sent via email to the address on file. If no email address is available, a printed tax receipt will be mailed to the donor’s postal address within one week.
Refund Requests
Donors who receive a refund may not be eligible to claim a charitable tax deduction for the refunded amount. We encourage all donors to consult their tax advisor regarding the impact of a refund on their individual tax situation.
Refunds may be granted at the discretion of The Lundquist Institute and are generally considered only under the following circumstances:
- The donation was made in error or in an incorrect amount (partial refunds may apply).
- The donation was not authorized by the donor.
- The donor has experienced a material change in circumstances.
- Note: The Institute reserves the right to determine what qualifies as a material change on a case-by-case basis.
All refund requests must be submitted within 30 days of the original donation date. To request a refund, please email the Development Office at [email protected]. If a refund is approved:
- Donations made by credit card will be refunded to the original payment method within 2–3 business days.
- Donations made by check or money order will be refunded by check and mailed to the address on file within 10 business days.
Third-Party Donations
If a donation was made through a third-party fundraising platform (e.g., Facebook, Network for Good, Benevity), refund requests must be submitted directly to the platform used. The Lundquist Institute does not have access to donor payment information submitted through external partners and is therefore unable to process refunds for those gifts.
Reservation of Rights
The Lundquist Institute reserves the right to deny a refund request if it determines, in its sole discretion, that the request is fraudulent, abusive, or otherwise not made in good faith.
