Dr. Saidinejad’s research focuses on Health Services and Outcomes Research with special emphasis on the use of technology to engage patients in their healthcare. More specifically, the research focuses on patient education, treatment adherence, and patient experience with hospital care. Additional areas of research include emergency department operations and throughput.

Biography

Over the past 20+ years, Dr. Mohsen Saidinejad has been involved in several activities centered around improving pediatric emergency care for all acutely ill and injured children. He has served on national committees of professional organizations and led the development of policy statements and technical reports and has conducted several large-scale research projects.

He’s been a member of the executive core and domain co-lead for the Knowledge Management Domain of the Emergency Medical services for Children innovation and Improvement Center (EIIC), funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as well as a domain co-lead for the Communications Core for the Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN), also funded by HRSA.

Currently, Dr. Saidinejad serves as a site Principal Investigator for a randomized multicenter clinical trial for pediatric seizure “Pediatric Dose Optimization in Status Epilepticus (PediDOSE)” through the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN). His other recent research activities include the evaluation of an asthma smart inhaler to track inhaled asthma medication dosing after an emergency department visit. This study was funded by the Blue Shield of California Foundation. He also serves as consultant on a Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) on “Youth partners in Care for Suicide Prevention. He recently received funding from the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) to build a program that helps connect patients to their primary medical home.

He’s authored several peer reviewed research articles. Dr. Saidinejad is the lead author for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) joint policy statement and technical report for the role of emergency physicians in management of acute mental and behavioral health emergencies. He’s a member of the pediatric emergency medicine committee for ACEP and a member of the executive committee on Pediatric Emergency Medicine (COPEM) for the AAP.

Previously, he served as the chair for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Interest Group for the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), where he also served as a member of the programming and faculty development committees. Locally, he serves as the Director for the Institute for Health Services and Outcomes Research at The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA and as advisor for Pediatric Emergency Medicine at UCLA Emergency Medicine Department.
