Practicum on Exercise Testing and Interpretation

The Practicum is a 2.5-day program that includes in-person didactic presentations, laboratory demonstrations and group discussions.  Clinical case examples will be used throughout to illustrate key concepts, the use of CPET, and approach to data summary and interpretation. The live sessions are supplemented by pre-recorded lectures and case discussions for registered participants are available at the link below.

The “Harbor Practicum” was inaugurated in 1982 by Drs. Karlman Wasserman and Brian J. Whipp in response to requests for practical instruction in cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). Course content has evolved to reflect changes in technology and clinical practice, maintaining the physiology of exercise as its core.

Educational goals are to understand the physiologic basis of gas exchange responses to exercise, and to be able to use variables from CPET to characterize exercise function in health and disease. The course is intended for physicians, scientists, and laboratory personnel involved in CPET.  The text Principles of Exercise Testing and Interpretation serves as the course reference and is included in the registration.
