Experienced legal and technology commercialization leader joins the Institute as it expands its partnerships and pathways to impact
Pamela Collingwood, Esq., has joined The Lundquist Institute as Chief Legal and Intellectual Property Officer, leading legal matters across the Institute and overseeing the intellectual property operations of its business development and technology transfer office.
The addition of in-house legal and intellectual property leadership reflects the Institute’s continued growth and expanding innovation activities. As The Lundquist Institute pursues new partnerships, licensing opportunities, and life sciences spinoff companies, the legal and intellectual property considerations involved in advancing that work have become increasingly complex. Bringing this expertisein-house strengthens governance and risk management while embedding legal and intellectual property expertise more directly in the Institute’s commercialization efforts.
“Pam brings a rare combination of deep legal expertise and a real understanding of how innovation happens,” said Joe W. Ramos, PhD, President and CEO of The Lundquist Institute. “She knows that protecting an idea is only one part of the equation. We also need the right structures that allow promising discoveries and new technologies to move forward responsibly and efficiently. As we strengthen our commercialization capabilities and expand opportunities to translate Lundquist science into real-world impact, her experience will be especially valuable.”
Collingwood brings more than 20 years of legal and leadership experience across healthcare, biomedical research, and technology commercialization. Most recently, she served as Vice President and Senior Deputy General Counsel for Intellectual Property and Commercialization at City of Hope, where she led the institution’s intellectual property legal function, oversaw its patent and trademark portfolios, negotiated complex technology transactions, and advised on emerging areas including artificial intelligence governance and data licensing.
Previously, Collingwood spent more than 15 years at Cedars-Sinai, where her roles included Senior Counsel and Executive Director of Technology Ventures. Her work spanned intellectual property, commercialization, global partnerships, and venture investment. Across these areas, she supported the development of diagnostics, digital health technologies, medical devices, and therapeutics. She also served as General Counsel and Vice President of a Cedars-Sinai-owned venture fund focused on international healthcare technology investments.
Earlier in her career, Collingwood was an associate in the Global Corporate and Global Project Finance Groups at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, advising public and private companies on financings, mergers and acquisitions, and other complex transactions.
Collingwood earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts with honors from Brown University, and is admitted to practice law in California. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study Arabic at the University of Damascus. In the community, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Culver City Education Foundation.
