Our Focus

The Infectious Disease and Immunology Innovation Hub brings together investigators from across infectious disease, HIV immunology, dermatology, rheumatology, neuroimmunology, epidemiology, biostatistics, oncology, and related fields. By combining different but complementary areas of expertise, our hub creates opportunities for new ideas, research projects, and scientific directions to emerge. Our work is grounded in translational science. We focus on advancing discoveries toward new therapeutics, prevention strategies, diagnostics, and biomarkers that can improve human health.

Why This Hub Exists

Immunity is at the heart of wellness. Immune dysregulation means failure to control infection, cancer, allergies, inflammation, wound healing, or autoimmunity. Treatments for these conditions may utilize strategies that manipulate immunity but must be used with caution: too much or too little can alter immune function and affect a person’s susceptibility to further imbalance. Addressing these complex biomedical challenges requires researchers to look beyond traditional specialties and work together across disciplines. We exist to create an environment where investigators can discover shared interests, combine complementary strengths, and build teams around promising scientific questions. We break down research silos to make unexpected connections possible—and turn those connections into meaningful discoveries.

We study the biological processes through which pathogens cause disease. By building a clearer understanding of disease mechanisms, scientists can identify new opportunities to prevent infection, improve diagnosis, and develop more effective treatments.

We explore how immune function affects a person’s susceptibility to infection. This includes examining how conditions such as cancer and autoimmune disease—and the treatments used to manage them—can alter immune responses and influence infection risk.
