Jennifer K. Yee, MD from Pediatric Endocrinology is doing a research study at The Lundquist Institute in association with the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The purpose of the study to find out if a mobile App (W8Loss2Go) and telephone coaching can help teens lose weight and develop healthier eating habits.
You may be eligible if:
- You are between 14 and 18 years of age and can read English
- One of your parents/guardians is also willing to participate, and speaks English or Spanish
- You have a desire to lose weight
Participation involves:
- 5-9 study visits over 18 months
- You and your parent/guardian will answer some questions to see if you can be in this study
- Being randomly assigned (like flipping a coin) to 1 of the 3 following groups:
- Group1: Use the mobile App and participate in weekly phone calls with a health coach
- Group2: Use only the mobile App
- Group3: Attend 6 health classes (once a month) with your parent/guardian at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
- Completing surveys (you and your parent/guardian)
- Having your height and weight measured
- Weighing yourself and your food daily
- Having blood collected on 2-3 occasions
You may lose weight and develop healthier eating habits during this study. You will have the opportunity to earn up to $200 dollars in gift cards for participation.
