The Lundquist Institute is pleased to congratulate Suvasini Lakshmanan, MD, MS, on receiving a Rapid Impact Research Award from the American Heart Association for her project, “Non-invasive assessment of inflammation in CKM syndrome: Sex Differences.” The American Heart Association approved $98,746 in funding over two years.
The award will support Dr. Lakshmanan’s investigation of non-invasive approaches to assessing inflammation in cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome, with a particular focus on differences between women and men. CKM health recognizes the close connections among the heart, kidneys and metabolic system—and how challenges in one area can affect the others.
Dr. Lakshmanan is an investigator in the Translational Science and Population Health Innovation Hub at The Lundquist Institute. A cardiologist and clinical researcher, she specializes in cardiac CT, cardiovascular prevention, subclinical atherosclerosis and women’s heart disease. Her research applies advanced cardiovascular imaging to the study of coronary plaque, lipid metabolism, inflammatory markers and cardiovascular risk, particularly among women, patients with diabetes and diverse populations.
This award will help advance an important area of research at the intersection of cardiovascular imaging, inflammation, metabolic health and sex-specific cardiovascular risk. We congratulate Dr. Lakshmanan on this achievement and look forward to the impact of her work.
