Infectious Diseases Clinical Outcomes Research Evaluation (ID-CORE) Unit

Our laboratory conducts a variety of Infectious Diseases investigations, including identification of microorganisms, antibiotic susceptibility testing, and bacterial strain typing. We partner with laboratories around the world on more advanced tests of strain typing, microbiome testing, and whole genome sequencing, among other technologies. We are one of few laboratories in the world that performs chlorhexidine gluconate (a topical antiseptic) concentration testing from human skin and other samples.

In the past 20 years, our research team has enrolled over 1000 participants into clinical trials, observational studies, qualitative studies (including survey administration and focus groups), and epidemiologic investigations. Our research staff has ample experience enrolling participants from a variety of backgrounds, including patients from clinics and the hospital, healthy persons from the community, and healthcare workers. We have experience partnering with community members to ensure that our investigations are addressing issues important to our communities and that study results are effectively communicated. Our research staff are bilingual in English and Spanish, so that we can make sure we include persons from our local community, regardless of preferred language, and to ensure that our study participants reflect those in our surrounding community.

Our team has simple experience developing, maintaining, and analyzing large, complex databases. Our team specializes in creating and using REDCap databases and has ample experience with analytics using SAS and other data analysis platforms. We also have ample experience with sophisticated, cutting-edge data analytic methods to help identify key relationships related to infectious disease diseases research, including relationships that may be unappreciated when traditional analytic techniques are used.
