The Institute of Metabolic Diseases consists of more than twelve established investigators with many nationally and internationally renowned collaborating Investigators throughout the US and on five continents. Interest areas include:

Renal Focus Area:

  • Patterns of adherence to medications and outcomes in end-stage renal disease
  • Developing a core set of outcomes for clinical trials
  • Mechanisms of peritoneal membrane injury
  • Personalized precision medicine for glomerular disease
  • Novel pharmaceutical therapies for diabetic kidney disease
  • and focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis
  • dietary treatment in chronic kidney disease
  • and end-stage renal disease.

The investigators in this institute have been highly productive as judged by metrics of grant support, publications, and national and internal recognitions as key investigators in their fields. The institute members integrate efforts from basic science, translational medicine, drug development and health care delivery. They anticipate further growth through recruitment of new investigators in several areas including:
