The Lundquist Institute Proudly Celebrates Dr. Marisela Montoya as a 2025 Los Angeles County Commission for Women "Woman of the Year" Honoree

The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (TLI) is thrilled to announce that Dr. Marisela Montoya, Ed.D., IBCLC, Executive Director of the South Los Angeles Health Projects (SLAHP), has been recognized by the Los Angeles County Commission for Women "Woman of the Year" Award recipient.
This prestigious honor acknowledges Dr. Montoya’s unwavering commitment to social and economic change, outstanding leadership, and dedication to advancing women’s rights. A passionate advocate and mentor, she has worked tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of women, children, and families in underserved communities.
"It is a privilege to serve as SLAHP’s Executive Director and to work alongside such an incredible team and community. This honor recognizes women who have championed social and economic change, served as role models, advanced women’s issues, and excelled in their professions to advocate for women's rights. I feel deeply grateful to be acknowledged for my contributions and dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all women,” says Dr. Montoya.
The award was initially set to be celebrated on March 10, 2025, marking the 50th Anniversary of the Los Angeles County Commission for Women and the 40th Anniversary Commemorative Ruby Celebration Gala for the Women of the Year Awards. However, due to the devastating fires impacting the region, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Commission for Women have postponed this milestone celebration to March 2026.
While the formal celebration may be delayed, TLI stands proud to recognize and honor Dr. Montoya’s incredible impact and achievements.
