Paula R. Moore Joins LA BioMed As Director of Development
Paula R. Moore, the former executive director of the FRIENDS of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, a nonprofit organization that supports the San Pedro-based aquarium, will be joining the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (LA BioMed) on Aug. 26 as the director of development.
“With her extensive experience in building philanthropic support for South Bay institutions and her long-time support for LA BioMed, Paula is an invaluable addition to our development team,” said Rodney D. Franks, LA BioMed vice president for development. “She successfully guided the FRIENDS of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium organization to new heights in philanthropic support, which is an especially noteworthy accomplishment because she did it in the midst of the recession. Paula understands the importance of research in the lives of patients and will help us achieve the broad philanthropic support that will ensure LA BioMed continues to be a leader in advancing the pace of discovery.”
Mrs. Moore recently retired from her position as FRIENDS executive director after seven years of serving as the nonprofit’s general manager. In that position, she planned and managed a comprehensive fundraising program, as well as overseeing all business programs, staff and communications functions. During her tenure, FRIENDS exceeded its fundraising goals every year and substantially increased its corporate sponsorships. Previously, she was the director of marketing for the Norris Center for the Performing Arts and a professional musician and music teacher.
Mrs. Moore is a long-time resident of Rancho Palos Verdes and has been an active community volunteer, serving on numerous boards, including the LA BioMed Foundation Board from 2002 to 2008. She fulfilled various capacities for the foundation, including serving as the chair for the 2006 Discovery Gala, LA BioMed’s annual fundraising event.
Mrs. Moore currently serves as the chair of the Foundation Board of Directors for California State University, Dominguez Hills and as the secretary/treasurer for the Moore Family Foundation. She and her husband, Brad, have two daughters, Katharine (27) and Lori (24).
