Dr. Christina Wang Receives Mayo H. Soley Award
LOS ANGELES – (Feb. 5, 2015) – Christina Wang, MD, Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute (LA BioMed) lead researcher, has received a top honor for her outstanding research work, the Mayo H. Soley Award, at the 2015 Western Regional Meetings of five top research societies in the West.
The award, presented at the meetings in Carmel, CA, is the highest honor awarded by the combined research societies and is only presented “from time to time,” according to the Western Society for Clinical Investigation, which sponsored the meetings.

In addition to serving as a lead researcher at LA BioMed, Dr. Wang is a professor of medicine at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, associate director of the UCLA Clinical and Translational Research Institute and a member of the Division of Endocrinology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She is renowned for her scientific accomplishments in reproductive medicine and, more recently, in the field of study related to the prevention of adverse effects from cancer chemotherapy.
Dr. Wang has served in many leadership capacities, including as the World Health Organization’s (WHO) chairperson of the Task Force on Methods for the Regulation of Male Fertility and as chair and member of the expert group that edited the last three editions of the WHO Laboratory Manual on semen analyses. She also served as special consultant for the United Nations (UN) for the UN Family Planning Association to review candidate centers, foster high quality research and monitor progress in developing countries. In addition, she served as a member of the International Committee for Contraception Research’s Population Council in the areas of male contraception development and population planning.
The American Andrology Association honored Dr. Wang in 2013 with the Distinguished Andrologist Award for scientific accomplishment and leadership in men’s health and, in 2011, with the Distinguished Service award for her work on behalf of the association. She has published over 300 peer-reviewed publications and more than 100 chapters in scientific books. She receives research support from many sources, including the National Institutes of Health.
